San Diego International Triathlon
Introduction We are excited to welcome you to the 27th annual San Diego International Triathlon. This race is one of the longest standing triathlons in the country and hopefully a favorite. There are two courses to choose from an international course and a sprint course, which ever you choose you’re guaranteed a great ride. Both races take place at the Spanish landing Park located on Harbor Drive across from the San Diego International Airport. This event has said to be simple, competitive and scenic; fun for you, your family and your friends. We look forward to providing you a safe and challenging race course. Register now; this race will sell out at least one month prior to race weekend. Beneficiary The race benefits St. Vincent de Paul Village, a member of Father Joe's Villages, America's #1 rehabilitation center for homeless and needy. Course Descriptions The International course and the sprint course both start at the western end of Spanish Landing Park and end at Embarcadero Marina Park North, just behind Seaport Village. International Course- A calm 1,000 meter swim at Spanish Landing Park on San Diego Bay. Water temperature will be approximately 64-68 degrees. Wetsuits are recommended. The bike portion is a "hilly" 30K ride to Cabrillo National Monument and back. Last is a flat 10K point-to-point run along Harbor Island and the Embarcadero. Sprint Course- A calm 500 meter swim at Spanish Landing P ark on San Diego Bay. Water temperatures will be approximately 64-68 degree. Wetsuits are recommended. The bike is a "hilly" 20K ride to Cabrillo National Monument and back. Last a flat 6K point-to-point run on the Embarcadero. Registration Athletes have the option to register various ways; on-line, print out a downloadable entry form off this website, request an entry form via mail or by completing an entry form from Race Place Magazine and mailing it to St. Vincent De Paul Village, Attn: SDIT at 3350 E Street San Diego, CA 92102. Please do not mail entries after April 25th. There is no event weekend registration. This event will sell out in advance. Register Early! "Last Chance to Enter"- For all you last minute athletes who went to register and found that the event was sold out; Nytro, the official bike shop of the San Diego International Triathlon is hosting the “Last Chance to Enter” event on Thursday, June 3. The last remaining 100 entries will be available first come, first serve. Numbers will be passed out starting at 10 am. Nytro is located at 940 S. Coast Hwy 101 in Encinitas. Discounts A $5 discount is available to Triathlon Club Members, Active Military, Students 19 & Under and Seniors 60+. These discounts are valid with mail-in registration only. Mail a printed entry form with proof of discount (copy of club membership card, active military ID, Student ID or driver’s license) to St Vincent De Paul Village, Attn: SDIT at 3350 E Street San Diego, CA 92102 Pre-Race Check In It is now MANDATORY that you bring your ID to the pre-race check-ins. We will need to check your ID when we receive your waiver. All athletes must attend the mandatory race check-in to pick up
their race materials. Athletes will sign the race waiver, show ID, and
pick up their timing chip, race numbers, swim cap and t-shirt. Athletes
also need to turn in their bikes at this time. YOU MUST PICK UP YOUR BIB NUMBER BEFORE YOU GO TO RACK YOUR BIKE. YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO RACK YOUR BIKE WITHOUT A BIB NUMBER. Bikes will be zip tied
to bike racks and guarded by security overnight. Race course
information will be presented throughout the day. Check-in is at Spanish Landing Park on Saturday June 26, 2010 from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. If you are unable to attend, please register for the Mailback Option or VIP check-in. THERE IS A $10 LATE PACKET PICK-UP FEE ON RACE MORNING MAILBACK OPTION For a fee of $15- Receive your race materials, EXCEPT FOR YOUR TIMING CHIP AND T-SHIRT, in the mail at least 5 days prior to the race. You DO NOT need to attend the pre-race check-in. Your timing chip will be available for you at the VIP booth on race morning. You will need to return a signed waiver by mail and pick up your t-shirt at the finish line. Entries must be received before the race is sold out. NO EXCEPTIONS! VIP Check-In For a fee of $30 your race numbers, swim cap, goodie-bag and t-shirt will be ready for your pick-up on race morning. Pre-race check in and bike drop off is not mandatory, you will check-in on race morning at the VIP check-in table. You will sign a waiver and pick up your race materials. VIP athletes have reserved bike racks with their names in the transition area. VIP athletes also receive a free 5 minute sports massage from Cassidy’s Massage Clinic at the finish line. Refund & Transfer Policy
Partial refunds and transfers are available. Cancel by March 1st and receive a refund of your entry fee, minus a $10 cancellation fee. After March 2 receive a refund, minus a $25 cancellation fee. Once the race sells out, refunds will not be offered. You may transfer your entry to the 2011 event or to another person until June 16th, 2010. To transfer your entry to the 2011 event or to another person, you must download a San Diego Triathlon Series Transfer Form. Transfer form must be received or postmarked by the deadline. Harbor Dr.). From I-5 take the SD International Airport exit and follow the signs to the airport (located on Harbor Dr). Turn left on Harbor Island Dr. Turn right into the large dirt parking lot. Park and follow signs to the expo. Event Day Directions & Parking The transition area / start is located at the west end of Spanish Landing Park. There is NO parking allowed on Harbor Drive on event day. Cars will be towed. There are two free lots servicing the San Diego International Triathlon. The first is located at the corner of Harbor Dr. and Harbor Island Dr. It is located across from the SD Int’l Airport. From I-5 take the SD Int’l Airport exit and follow the signs to the airport (located on Harbor Dr). Turn left on Harbor Island Dr. Turn right into the large dirt parking lot. Park and follow the signs to the west end of the park. The second free lot is located at the corner of Harbor Dr. and Nimitz Blvd. It is located about 1/3 mile west of the transition area. Take I-8 west to Nimitz Blvd. Take Nimitz Blvd south to Harbor Dr. Turn left on Harbor Dr. Stay in left lane. Turn left at the first signal and follow the signs to the event parking areas at the ASW/NTC. Please do not walk across Harbor Dr. Use the pedestrian bridge. There is a pay parking lot across the street from Spanish Landing Park and the transition area. The cost may range between $5 and $10. Bus Shuttle Service A free bus shuttle service will be provided for both competitors and spectators. The shuttle begins at 8:00 am to take spectators to the finish line. It will continue to transport competitors and spectators between Seaport Village and Spanish Landing Park until 11:50 am. The shuttle will not transport participants or spectators from the finish line to the start line prior to the start of the race. DO NOT WALK ACROSS HARBOR DRIVE BUT USE THE UNDERCROSSING OR CROSSWALK AT THE WEST END OF THE TRANSITION AREA. NYTRO BIKE TUNE-UP Nytro is offering a tune-up special at the pre-race expo on Saturday, June 27, 2009 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Register online before the expo receive a discounted $20 price. At the expo, the special tune-ups will be available for $25 on a first-come first-served basis; subject to availability. The tune-up will include: lube and adjust drive train, adjust front and rear brakes, adjust headset, adjust bottom bracket if needed, tighten skewers and bolts if needed, inspect tires and tire pressure, and if during the inspection parts are found that need to be replaced, all new parts will be discounted 10% off the regular retail price! (subject to parts availability). Hotel Accommodations The Courtyard Marriott San Diego Airport/Liberty Station is the host hotel for the San Diego International Triathlon. It is located just blocks from the start of the race. A room block is reserved for triathlon participants at a rate of $129 per night.
