INTRODUCTION
The inaugural Moores UCSD Cancer Center 1 mile Luminary Walk on May 3, 2008 is a major fundraiser for the Clinical Research
Department of the Moores UCSD Cancer Center.
What makes this walk special in addition to raising much needed funds is
each participant will have the opportunity to make a special Luminary sign to
be placed on the walk course to recognize and honor a loved one who is being treated for cancer or who has lost friends and family members to the disease. The signs will be kept up until the following day and will comprise a major course feature for the Moores UCSD Cancer Center Spring Sprint Triathlon and Duathlon on May 4, 2008.
The Personal Best Theme for this triathlon started with a vision from
Dr. Tony Reid, Executive Director of the Clinical Trials Office. Dr.
Reid understands that patients undergoing anti-cancer treatments are
doing their "personal best" in the fight against their disease, as are
athletes doing their "personal best" as they compete in sporting events
such as triathlons. This event will recognize the courage, determination
and strength that cancer patients and athletes demonstrate in their
daily pursuits to achieve their personal bests.
We invite you to support our vision and join us in this "personal best" event. Whether you plan to participate in the walk, in the triathlon the next day, or just support the patients and athletes, we look forward to seeing you there.
Net proceeds from the walk will benefit clinical research at Moores UCSD Cancer Center.
